Our "ice-cellar" has been build up at about 450 years ago as a storage barn embedded in the old medieval defence wall of the city Bietigheim. The main purpose was the storage of the field products and fruits. The walls of the "ice-cellar" are approximately 1,5 meter thick - this was a reason for the good climatic isolation both in the winter and summer. In the harsh winter times the "ice-cellar" has been equipped with the ice floes from the next-by river Metter, offering in that case a good oportunity to use it as a cold storage depot for the freshly brewed bier and wine barrels. The medieval grooves for draining the melted ice water can be still seen along the left and right cellar walls respectively.
The good climatic conditions of the "ice-cellar" are a perfect base for the organisation of seminars, company meetings, cultural and culinary events and private party arrangements in our contemporary times - despite of the summer or winter seasons. The well known "cellars" of similar construction can be even found in our neighbourhood, underneath of the castle of Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg.
